Getting help

When you contact the Unit, it will be helpful if you can provide:

• your name as shown on your passport
• your passport number, date and place of issue
• your date of birth
• your parents' names
• your address and telephone number in the UK
• address and telephone number in the country you are visiting
• names and addresses of other relatives you might be visiting abroad
• the date you are expecting to return to the UK
• details of a trusted and reliable friend or relative in the UK

If you do go abroad

• make a note of the address and telephone number of the British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate in the country you are visiting
• take some money with you (for telephone calls or for transport)
• contact the nearest British High Commission/Embassy when you are overseas if you fear you are going to be forced into a marriage
• the High Commission/Embassy will try to get you back to the UK, issue an emergency passport if necessary and provide you with safe accommodation and transport
• you or a friend will need to provide money for your ticket home (in exceptional circumstances a loan can be arranged) and provide the FCO with your full name and date of birth
• you may need to get to the nearest British High Commission/Embassy, although the FCO will still try to help if you cannot get there yourself
