If you have crime-related injuries you can apply for compensation through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme allows financial awards to be made:

to recognise the injuries, physical and mental, caused by a crime of violence
in certain circumstances, to compensate for past or future lost earnings or special expenses caused by such a crime
for bereavement as a result of a crime of violence, including, in some cases, compensation for the lost earnings of the person who has been killed

This online service is available in England, Wales and Scotland only and applies to all applications received by CICA on, or after, 1 April 2001.

To apply for compensation under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme:

choose the type of award you wish to apply for, either a fatal injury award or a personal injury award
fill out an online questionnaire to check whether you are likely to be eligible
apply online or download a printable form (PDF format) and post it to the address at the top of the application form

Before completing an award, make sure you have the:

National Insurance number for the injured person
crime reference number given by the police for the incident
details of the hospital, doctor or dentist where treatment was received as a result of the injury
