Going on holiday with a carer or companion

Going on holiday with friends or family members means that support, if required, is at hand. Of course, you may want to travel alone or with someone who isn't there to act as a 'carer'.

Finding a carer or companion

You can hire a companion, carer or nurse to provide extra assistance. They can help while out and about or provide daily, personal care.

You need to discuss what they will be doing while on holiday with you. Are they there 'in the background' - in case of emergencies - or to accompany you most of the time?

There are some commercial companies that provide this service. There are also charities set up to arrange holidays for disabled people and provide volunteer companions and helpers.

Visit our travel contacts page for contact details of organisations specialising in travel for disabled people.
