Student Loan rates 2009/2010

Student Loans are available to eligible full-time students doing a higher education course in the UK. This page tells you the maximum rates for students from England in 2009/2010.

Student Loan for Tuition Fees: maximum rates for 2009/2010

The maximum you’ll have to pay for tuition fees depends on when you started your course - and so does the maximum loan you can get.

New students and students who started in or after September 2006

For new students and most who started in or after September 2006, the loan will cover the full amount charged for tuition fees.

This means up to £3,225 for 2009/2010.

Students who started before September 2006

Help with tuition fees is different if you started your course before September 2006 (or if you are treated as having started then).

You may be able to get a tuition fee grant to help with the contribution you have to make towards your tuition fees.

Depending on your household income, this could mean up to £1,285 - the full tuition fee Grant for 2009/2010.

If you only qualify for a partial tuition fee grant, you can apply for a Fee Contribution Loan to cover the difference.

Student Loan for Maintenance

A proportion of the maximum Student Loan for Maintenance is available irrespective of your household income (though it is affected by the level of help you get through the Maintenance Grant).

Whether you get the rest depends on an income assessment. See ‘Applying for student finance’ for more on income assessment.
