Webcast help
The Queen's Speech, Prime Minister's Questions, Budget statements, and important ministerial statements and debates can be accessed via the webcast page in the Newsroom section. If you want to view these, but are unsure what to do, follow the advice below.
Webcast software
In order to view the video webcasts on this site you need to download and install either Real Player or Windows Media Player. The latter is usually installed on new PCs by default. Both of these are available free of charge by selecting one of the links below.
Firewalls
A firewall might stop you from seeing the webcasts, especially if you are part of a network (for example, working in an office). If you have either Real Player or Windows Media Player installed on your computer, but are having problems accessing our webcasts you should seek advice from either your internet service provider or office network administrator. If you are using a firewall you should check the specification to see whether it is affecting the webcast.
Broadband
You do not need to have broadband or some other form of high speed access in order to view webcasts as these are designed to work for anybody using a 56k, or faster, modem.
MP3 files or 'podcasts'
For some broadcasts we will also provide an audio MP3 file for you to download. This allows you to save a copy of the broadcast onto your computer. You can then listen to this whenever you want, or transfer it onto your MP3 player.
How you download the MP3 file will depend on the set up of your computer. Usually, if you want to download the file you should click on the link using the button on the right hand side of your mouse. You should then see a list of options including "Save Target As…" or "Save Link As…". If you select this option you should be able to save the MP3 file to your computer.
