Fraudulent emails, lottery scams, unsolicited direct marketing telephone calls and mailshots

The Consumer Direct website has advice on how to avoid becoming a victim to frauds perpetrated in unsolicited emails (spam) and telephone calls.

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) has been set up to help ensure that your telephone number is no longer available to direct marketing organisations that might want to make unsolicited phone calls to you.

The Mailing Preference Service (MPS) has been set up to enable consumers to have their names and addresses removed from lists used by the direct mail industry.

There are also a number of email scams in circulation that tell people they have won a lottery prize from The UK National Lottery.
