Local surveys on graffiti, fly posting and litter

If you live in England you can find out about the environmental quality of the area you live in. ENCAMS is an environmental charity which runs the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign and provides an independent survey of local environmental issues, such as litter and graffiti, in every council area in England.

What does the survey contain?

Local government structure

For information on what councils are and what they do, follow the link below

The survey, carried out between April 2006 and March 2008, gives information on how much litter, graffiti and flyposting were found in each local council area:

  • on the street
  • in parks
  • in town centres and other places that the you visit for work and leisure

The survey gives detailed information on the type and size of any problems broken down by council area and gives councils the opportunity to deal with problems in your area.

What period do the surveys cover?

The first set of 174 councils were surveyed between April 2006 and March 2007 and the remaining 180 council areas were surveyed between April 2007 and March 2008. All these results are available.

Where can you find the results?

The results can be viewed on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) website.

Once you have selected the council area, you will be presented with a PDF document which includes detailed information on 32 environmental issues for the council area in question.
