Request a new pedestrian crossing in your area

Your local council is responsible for providing and maintaining pedestrian crossing facilities in places where it's likely people may need to cross roads, for example, at major road junctions, near shopping areas and outside schools.

You can enquire and make suggestions about pedestrian crossing facilities and speed limits by contacting your local council, or the local council for the area you are concerned about.

Children and roads

If you are crossing with a child hold their hands at all times as you cross and teach them to never run into or play close to the roads. Don't allow a child out alone unless they understand how to use the Green Cross Code. Even if they are only playing outside, there's a chance your child may go onto the road to fetch a ball or toy - until they know how to cross safely, make sure they know to call an adult to fetch it.
