How to remove expired endorsements from your driving licence

To remove expired endorsements from your driving licence, you’ll need to apply to exchange your licence for a new one. You can apply by post, or if you hold a paper driving licence, you can use the premium checking service.

By post

You will need to fill in an ‘Application for a driving licence’ (D1). This form is available from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) form ordering service or at some Post Office® branches.

Photocard driving licence holder

You will need to enclose:

  • your photocard driving licence, paper counterpart and the appropriate fee
  • original identity document(s) if your current name is different to that on your driving licence

Paper driving licence holder

 You will need to enclose:

  • a passport type photo, your paper driving licence and the appropriate fee
  • original documentation confirming your identity, or agree to DVLA verifying your identity with the Identity and Passport Service (IPS), if you are a digital passport holder

Send your application, including any necessary documents to DVLA, Swansea SA99 1BU.

Premium Checking Service

You can exchange your paper driving licence for a photocard driving licence using the Premium Checking Service available at selected Post Office® branches or DVLA Local Offices.

Driver licensing online

Any application you make for a new driving licence will automatically remove expired endorsements from your driving licence.

You can make the following applications online which will remove your expired endorsements:

  • change your address details
  • renew the photo on your driving licence
  • get a replacement if your licence has been lost, stolen, defaced or destroyed
  • exchange your paper driving licence to a photocard driving licence
