It's time to MOT your paperwork

It's just as important to MOT your paperwork on a regular basis as it is to check the air in your tyres. Every time your name, address or other details change, you can apply for an updated driving licence and vehicle registration certificate free of charge.

Why is it important to update?

It's a legal requirement to notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) when you change name and/or address. Failure to notify DVLA could result in a £1000 fine.

Informing DVLA about changes to your name, address or the details of your vehicle is very important. DVLA's records are used to support law enforcement and track down vehicle tax evaders, owners of abandoned vehicles and those involved in vehicle theft and related crimes.

Our records are used to notify you if your vehicle needs to be recalled and contact your family in the event that you're involved in an accident.

Update now! How to tell DVLA

To tell the DVLA of a change of name, address or vehicle details you can use your driving licence, your vehicle registration document (V5) or vehicle registration certificate (V5C).

If any of your documents have been lost, stolen or destroyed, you'll need to apply for a duplicate with the appropriate fee.

If you need any of the forms to notify DVLA of any changes, they are available from most Post Office® branches. You can also order the driving licence D1 application pack from the DVLA form ordering service, or a V62 application for a vehicle registration certificate using the following links.
