Nine Lords-a-blogging

  • Published: Monday, 17 March 2008

A group of peers have launched a joint blog aimed at publicising the work of the House of Lords.

Lords of the Blog is an experimental project to encourage direct dialogue between web users across the world and Members of the House of Lords

The aim of the blog is to help educate, raise awareness and engage with the public on a range of issues relating to the role and business of the House of Lords nd allows people to ask the authors about their lives and the workings of the upper house.

Lords of the Blog is an experimental project to encourage direct dialogue between web users across the world and Members of the House of Lords. Commissioned by the House of Lords, the pilot project is conducted by the Hansard Society who are working directly with Members of the Lords to bring their blogs to the wider online audience.

The blog is authored by a group of Members from across the House; some are tied to political parties ,some are independent crossbenchers. Each Member has their own profile and personal section of the blog. A homepage provides an at-a-glance digest of the latest post from each Member.

Each Member will make a regular and short written entry providing an insight into the business of the House of Lords, and their own particular activity in and around the Lords Chamber. The Members will write and upload material, and moderate user comments prior to publication.

Participating peers are Lord (Clive) Soley, Lord (Philip) Norton of Louth, Baroness (Frances) D’Souza, Lord (David) Lipsey, Lord (Paul) Tyler, Lord (Navnit) Dholakia, Lord (Robin) Teverson, Baroness (Lola) Young of Hornsey and Baroness (Elaine) Murphy.

The Hansard Society will evaluate all aspects of this pilot and capture data about audiences of the blog to assess its reach and value.  Feedback is welcomed.
