New terms for the government's scrappage scheme come into force today. Cars registered on or before 29 February 2000 (V registration) now qualify, as do eight-year-old vans.
Cars registered on or before 29 February 2000 (V registration) now qualify for the £2,000 scrappage discount. This change has been made to make sure that all ten-year-old cars qualify for the scrappage scheme. Previously, cars had to be be registered on or before 31 August 1999.
Van owners also benefit from the changes, as eight-year-old vans now qualify for the discount. Before now, vans had to be at least ten-years old.
The manufacturers taking part in the scrappage scheme are: Allied Vehicles, Bentley, BMW, Chevrolet, Citroen, Daihatsu, FIAT, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, London Taxis International, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, MG Motor, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Perodua, Peugeot, Porsche, Proton, Renault, Rolls Royce, SAAB, SECMA UK, Ssangyong, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Vauxhall, Volkswagen, Volvo, Iveco Ltd, Chrysler, Renault Trucks UK Ltd.
Twenty-six of these manufacturers have signed up to the new terms as at 21 October, with the remaining 12 expected to agree to the terms shortly.
The scrappage scheme will come to an end in 28 February 2010 or when the funding runs out, whichever is sooner.
The dealers will do all the paperwork for you and arrange for the old vehicle to be scrapped.
The dealer will check that the vehicle being traded in and the new one being bought qualify under the scheme.
