At Young Rewired State, an event to be held on 22 and 23 August, young developers aged 15-18 will be encouraged to 'mash-up' government data that has been approved for this purpose. Directgov is one of the sponsors of the event.
Your chance to rewire the state, if you are innovative, geeky and aged 15-18!
Young Rewired State is a weekend event emulating the success of Rewired State's 'National Hack the Government Day' - this time for geeks aged 15-18.
It offers 50 young developers the chance to build and create useful applications with government data that has been released and cleared for this purpose.
The event has been set up to:
Rewired State geeks will be on hand to teach and assist where necessary; and at the end of the weekend there will be a show and tell to government ministers, civil servants, press, entrepreneurs and interested parties/sponsors. Groups of young developers will present their final projects to a judging panel including government and members of the private sector.
Directgov is among the sponsors of Young Rewired State. Mike Hoban, director of communications and engagement, said: “Directgov is pleased to be involved in Young Rewired State. We are continuously exploring how new and existing data and software can be used to make information available to the widest possible audience, in the most effective formats.”
Mums and dads, uncles and aunts, or anyone else over 18 who feels they missed their chance to attend a geeky summer camp, will be pleased to know there are other ways to get involved.
For example, Directgov has an online innovation space, Directgov | innovate, at which developers of all ages are encouraged to submit apps developed using government data, crowd-sourcing, or new digital technologies.
The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will centre around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2 to 5 June
