Driving Standards Agency launches video channel on YouTube

  • Published: Tuesday, 22 September 2009

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has announced the launch of its own video sharing channel on YouTube. Driving test candidates and other road users can use the channel to view road safety videos and practical information about driving tests.

Helping you to pass your test

The videos will be especially useful to people who are about to take car or motorcycle tests. Content includes videos of the modular motorcycle test and the Are You Ready? films for car and motorcycle candidates. There's also an example of the new case study questions being added to the theory test from 28 September 2009.

The videos also provide practical information about how to book a test and which documents to bring with you on the day. Information videos include a sign language presenter.

Sharing via social media

The use of YouTube as a space to publish the DSA videos makes it easy to share them with a wide audience. For example driving instructors can email links for the videos to their pupils. If you visit the DSA's YouTube channel, you can easily share the content in a number of ways. You can:

  • embed video content directly into your own website or blog
  • put it into forums
  • share it by email
  • send it to friends through social networking sites such as Facebook

Making it easy for you

Nick Carter of the DSA said: “We want to talk to our audiences on the platforms we know they use. By putting our videos on YouTube, we’re catering for the growing number of people whose first choice to find information is to go online.”

For example the DSA's Are You Ready? short film is currently sent as a DVD to everyone who books a theory test. This will be scaled down as people increasingly choose to view it online instead, but the DVD will remain available on request.
