The Queen's Diamond Jubilee - celebrations and events

The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will centre around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June. Find out what is being planned to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and how you can take part.

Diamond Jubilee bank holiday

The bank holiday for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be on Tuesday 5 June. To form a long weekend of celebration the late May bank holiday will be moved to Monday 4 June.

Other plans to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee include:

• a Diamond Jubilee Medal - likely recipients and further details are under consideration
  
• a UK-wide competition for towns to bid for city status, launching in spring 2010

Moving the May Day bank holiday

At present there are two bank holidays in May. The DCMS is considering options to move a bank holiday from May to another month. The early May bank holiday is candidate for the move, but other options have not been ruled out. 

If you'd like to help select a date when a bank holiday should be celebrated, do visit the DCMS website to reposnd to their pre-consultation. You can offer your suggestions for which holiday to move, and what the 'new' bank holiday should commemorate.
