Improving family justice - give your views

  • Published: Tuesday, 31 August 2010

What can be done to improve family justice? If you have views about issues such as divorce proceedings, contact with children after family breakdown, cases of children going in to care, or of mediation - the Family Justice Review would like to hear from you.

Consultation closed

This consultation has now closed. The questionnaires are no longer available and responses will not be processed.

The Family Justice Review

The Family Justice Review was set up earlier this year and is investigating how to improve the family justice system.

The Review particularly wants to hear from you if you have experienced or been affected by divorce, child contact or residence issues or care proceedings for children.

To support this, a short questionnaire has been designed to make it easy for you to give feedback on the way the system could be improved.

This is a shorter and more user friendly version of the full ‘Call for Evidence’ questionnaire which is also available online. This can be accessed by clicking on the ‘full questionnaire’ link below. This is also open to anyone to complete but will take a little longer to do so.

The review is looking at:

  • how the justice system can focus more on helping family members to reach agreement rather than pitting them against each other
  • how best the courts can work with other agencies supporting children involved in the care system
  • how to provide greater contact rights to non-resident parents and grandparents

By logging onto the ‘user friendly’ questionnaire you can give your ideas quickly and simply on how the system can be improved for the future.

Have your say

The ‘user friendly’ questionnaire combines seven multiple choice and ‘free text’ questions to help you respond to the review.

You don’t need to answer all of the questions - just read through them and then decide which ones you want to respond to.

If you want to provide more detailed responses, submit your answers using the ‘full questionnaire’.

If you’ve already filled in the ‘full questionnaire’ many thanks and your response will be considered by the Review team. There is no need to fill in the shorter questionnaire as well but you are welcome to do this if you have further comments to add.

Responses should be submitted by Thursday 30 September 2010.

The responses received will be considered as part of the Review’s ‘Call for Evidence’, which was announced in June.

The Family Justice Review will report back on its findings next year.
