Alcohol, tobacco and gambling : Pre-Budget Report 2009

Today, the Chancellor announced that alcohol and tobacco duty rates would remain at the current levels and that bingo duty rates would be reduced.

Alcohol

Alcohol duty will remain at the current levels.

Tobacco

Tobacco duty will remain at the current levels.

The current rates of tobacco duty are:

Product

 Duty

Cigarettes

24 per cent of the retail price plus £114.31 per thousand cigarettes

Cigars

£173.13 per kilogram

Hand-rolling tobacco

£124.45 per kilogram

Other smoking tobacco and chewing tobacco

£76.12 per kilogram

Gambling

Bingo duty will fall from 22 per cent to 20 per cent at Budget 2010.
