Presentation modules

There are six presentation modules that can be adjusted to suit different needs:

Module 1 - for schools and colleges

This module is aimed at young people between 16 and 19 years. Its messages include adopting the correct attitude towards the responsibilities of a driver after passing the test. 

The presentation is free of charge and is delivered by local driving examiners. It uses a facilitated group discussion and a DVD showing the department for Transport 'THINK Campaign' footage, the experiences of real young people and a striking drama to communicate key road safety messages.  

It focuses on:

• the vulnerability of the new, young driver
• the dangers of drinking and taking drugs when driving
• the use of speed and its consequences when not used correctly
• video footage highlighting the results of road traffic accidents
• hazard awareness and anticipating the actions of other road users
• information about both the theory and practical tests

Module 2 - young offender

This module expands on the module 1 presentation but also addresses important road safety issues relevant to this group. It is a more forceful module, designed to take into account the offenders' age and offence. It includes discussions about the consequences of taking without consent and driving while under age. 

Module 3 - prisons

This is a more forceful presentation than module 1, dealing with the consequences of driving recklessly and the responsibility and skill which safer driving requires.

Module 4 - Arrive Alive motorbike

This module recognises that increasing numbers of young people are turning to motorcycles and scooters as a cost effective means of transport. It promotes awareness of the dangers of riding and how motorcycling must be coupled with a sense of responsibility and the correct attitude.

It focuses on the vulnerability of the new, young rider, the dangers of taking drugs and drinking when riding and the use of speed and the consequences if it's not used correctly. It also includes a section on pillion passenger responsibility. 

It offers advice on hazard awareness, planning, anticipation of other road users and the importance of 'see and be seen'. It describes how young riders lack experience and are less able to anticipate potential hazards than experienced riders. It uses DVD footage showing the results of road traffic accidents and the consequences of rider error.

Module 5 - you can drive too

This module outlines how holding a full driving licence can open up a whole new world of independence, and brings new responsibilities. It notes young people with mobility issues are not exempt from being injured on roads.

This module includes:

• important information on a whole range of driving and mobility issues
• focuses on the vulnerability of the new, young driver, the dangers of drinking and taking drugs when driving, the use of speed and its consequences when not used correctly
• offers advice on hazard awareness, planning and anticipating the actions of other road users. It describes how, during the first two years after passing their test, young drivers lack experience and are less able to anticipate potential hazards than more experienced drivers
• uses DVD footage showing the consequences of road traffic accidents in an effort to reduce the risk of more young drivers being killed or seriously injured

This module also gives information about assessment centres and some adaptations available to overcome mobility problems.

Module 6 - classic

This module is designed for drivers aged 50 or over.
