Helping Black boys and young Black men aim higher and achieve more

"I hope our 20 role models will inspire 20,000, and the 20,000 will inspire a generation"
Simon Woolley, recruitment panel member

We are creating the first-ever national role model programme for Black boys and young Black men. We are looking for inspirational Black men who will be champions for the next generation.

An independent panel of Black adults, young Black men and boys are helping us recruit at least 20 role models.

The closing date for REACH role model applications has been reached. The selected 20 national role models will be announced in early December 2008.

"We are working towards a society where every Black boy and young Black man can fulfil his potential"

What is REACH?

REACH is a programme for Black boys and young Black men, supporting and inspiring them to raise their aspirations, attainment and achievement.

Last year an independent group of 25 members of the Black community produced a report which resulted in the formation of REACH. They made five recommendations to improve the futures of Black boys and young Black men:

  • improve the visibility of positive Black role models
  • create stronger links between Black families and schools
  • improve reporting on race equality in schools
  • ensure strong ministerial oversight of action to implement REACH
  • encourage third sector organisations that support young Black
    men to share their efforts
