Housing mobility schemes

Communities and Local Government, the government department responsible for housing mobility services, has re-established the Seaside and Country Homes Scheme which was suspended following the termination of the moveUK brand in January 2007.

Moving Home

Seaside & Country Homes

This is a scheme which offers you mobility moves from London to its properties in rural and seaside areas of the UK. Eligibility for the Seaside and Country Homes Scheme is restricted to London households in social housing where at least one applicant is aged 60 or over.

LAWN

This is a landlord referrral scheme that aims to help you move from London to other parts of the UK. To be eligible for LAWN you must live in social housing in London. There is no age limit for applications to LAWN.

Seaside and Country Homes Scheme

Application forms to join this scheme are available from your Local Authority if you are a London tenant aged 60 or over. If you have any questions about your registration then you can contact the Seaside and Country Homes team on 08450 21 20 20.

If you were registered for the Seaside and Country Homes Scheme under moveUK, your registration should be unaffected and you will still be considered for a move.

LAWN Mobility Scheme

You may contact your landlord directly to find out if they participate in a mobility scheme like LAWN or you may call the housingmoves team on 08450 21 20 20. Alternatively, some London Councils have a LAWN Mobility Scheme Officer whom you can contact directly.

If you were registered with your local Council for a Local Council for a LAWN Mobility Scheme move before January 2007, recent changes in delivery of the scheme will not affect your position. However, if you have any questions about your application, you should discuss these with your Local Council's LAWN Mobility Scheme Officer.

You can apply to move home through your existing landlord or local council and some may offer a mutual exchange service within their area.

If you are interested in a mutual exchange the link below will give information about providers of this service.

You may also wish to apply for a move through a Choice-Based Lettings scheme if your existing landlord or local council operates one or if there is a Choice-Based Lettings scheme in the area you wish to move to. For further details on how Choice-Based Lettings works click on the link below.
